Our R&D operation main objective is to develop microbial production of phosphorylated carbohydrates and to bring to market “building blocks”.
Such a microbial production is interesting for the building blocks we are interested in since they can have an amazing potential in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and in the agro-food sector.
However, research with phosphorylated sugars has been limited, in part, due to the fact that many of our target products are compounds that are expensive to synthesize using petrochemistry.
However, despite their biological and commercial importance, the scaleable, inexpensive production of many non-commodity sugars has been extremely difficult to date.
With new breakthroughs in biotechnology and chemistry such as those offered by BioC3, the promise of glycotechnology is now within reach.
